There are three symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder:
a) re-experiencing the event
- it feels like it’s happening again. This can come through flashbacks, nightmares, memories, etc…
b) avoidance
- avoiding people, places, things, thoughts, or feelings. Avoiding whatever is related to the trauma.
c) arousal
Arousal happens when you have trouble:
- focusing or concentrating
- sleeping
- controlling your anger/temper
- keeping control of your nerves
- with your anxiety levels

These are some important tips for panic attack sufferers. Use them.
- when having a panic attack, keep note of all your symptoms, feelings, thoughts, the place where you got the attack, etc…This will help your doctor get a better picture of your disorder. You don’t want to be misdiagnosed
- if you get four or more these attacks, see a therapist. These attacks probably won’t go away unless you seek professional help
- this is an important tip for panic attack sufferers. You must believe that you can overcome this problem. You must believe that you have control over your thoughts and body
- if you can’t control your thoughts, your mind will send out messages to the body instructing it to defend itself - which leads to a panic attack

The exact cause of panic attacks is not known, but there are some possibilities. A possible cause of panic attacks can be stress. During major transitional periods (like graduating from school, marriage, having a baby), the stress may trigger a panic attack. This can happen whether the stress is good or bad.
Your genetics is another possible cause of panic attacks. There is a greater risk of you getting the disorder if someone in your family has also suffered from it.
Once you’ve gotten your first panic attack, you begin to live in fear of having another one. The thought of having another attack can cause a panic attack.
For some reason that is not know, women are twice as likely to get panic disorder than men are. Also, all ethnic groups are susceptible to the disorder.

Panic Attack Symptoms

There’s no doubt that panic attack symptoms are dreadful. Even experiencing two minutes of these symptoms can seriously disable someone. What’s even more fearful is that these panic attack symptoms seem to come out of nowhere, and for no apparent reason.
A lot of people think there’s something physically wrong with them when they experience panic attack symptoms. Some even go as far as thinking it’s a heart attack or a stroke.
This overwhelming rush of fear is the “fight or flight” response. Millions of years ago this response warned humans that danger was near. But when people experience these panic attack symptoms today, there seems to be very little, or no danger at all.
Here are some panic attack symptoms:
- hyperventilation
- chest pains
- heart rate is faster than normal
- dizziness
- nausea
- shaking/trembling
- choking
